For those who prefer cartoons that at least have a sense of reality (or any kind of “sense” really), then this show isn’t for you. The initials “WTF” will run through your head every five seconds. I guarantee you, that you’ll see “the weirdest damn stuff” (to quote John K.) on this show. In order to really enjoy the show, all sense of logic (not to mention physics) had to be thrown out the window, while viewing this show. The show was a little difficult to watch without getting a mind-numbing headache. There’s animation mistakes galore (more so than a typical episode of Scooby-Doo), and just a bunch of other stuff that happens for seemingly no reason (more on this later). He mostly discusses how talky the show was, but on top of that, the show suffered from bad staging, and direction. Mike Thompson wrote a review on the show about 6 years ago explaining the show’s major flaws ( ).
#Captain claw tiny toons series
Well, in all fairness, this show is not a total disgrace, and I’ll admit, it’s a guilty pleasure of mine (but, then again, I’ll watch anything that features Janet Waldo’s voice even “Shizzan”, which is reputed to be H-B’s worst series ever). So, what exactly is wrong with this show, that I’ve felt the need to recap an episode. That unfortunately makes it’s connection to Wacky Races a tad out of whack, because it makes you think, “So, is this like a prequel series? Or is it supposed to be in it’s own continuity? Or is it just a show and I should really just relax?” The series itself feels like it’s taking place in the 1920’s or 30’s. The show also pays homage to 1920s adventure flicks, the very same that inspired the Indiana Jones films. Obviously of “The Perils of Pauline”, which was a serial. But then again, Gary Owens can probably take any piece of boring writing (“The Scarlet Letter”), and read it off in a way that it sounds like he’s talking about the sinking of the Lusitania. Sure, it doesn’t sound much like an intro, but when you have Gary Owens read it off, it sounds interesting. But, foiling this fiends foul plots are her ever-present protectors, the Ant Hill Mob, and their courageous car Chugga-Boom! Penelope Pitstop, heiress to a vast fortune, is in perpetual peril from her fortune-seeking guardian Sylvester Sneakly, who unknown to her, is really The Hooded Claw (Paul Lynde). In fact, I may as well transcribe everything for you right here and now: Like most opening sequences, the premise set up nice and neatly for the viewing audience.

Well, that’s KIND OF what the show focused on, but the details in the premise are further away from what my imaginings were. Before I first saw this series, my thinking was that it was about Penelope Pitstop on some extended road trip in her Compact Pussycat, and getting into perilous hazards along the way.

The odd thing about this “spin-off” is it really had no true connection to Wacky Races, apart from the presence of Penelope herself, and the Ant Hill Mob (also from Wacky Races, however, they had different names). H-B saw something in the character, and decided to spin her off in her own series. The character was introduced as the token female in a previous Hanna-Barbera series entitled “Wacky Races”. Here’s something I’ve been wanting to do a recap on for some time.
